Climate change & economic impact
By Benjamin Lin - Taiwan
Global warming is an pressing issue that humanity must confront. Over the past few decades, our actions have harmed and polluted the Earth. One day, while watching TV with my dad, I was taken aback by the news I heard on TVBS Sisy's World News. Scientists predict that by 2050, many coastal countries will be submerged underwater. This revelation made me contemplate how an ordinary person like myself can contribute to saving the Earth.
There are numerous ways we can help, such as reducing our carbon footprint, recycling, and supporting the use of green energy. Personally, I have adopted simple practices to aid the environment. For instance, I limit my use of air conditioning even in hot and humid weather. Instead of relying on AC when I sleep, I opt to open the windows and enjoy the natural breeze. Additionally, I choose to use public transportation, which not only reduces carbon emissions but also saves me money compared to taking a taxi.
Furthermore, my family is diligent about recycling, particularly when it comes to papers. As a student, I understand the extensive use of paper at school. To minimize our impact on nature, my family follows two strategies. Firstly, we ensure that both sides of the paper are utilized and avoid leaving excessive blank spaces. Secondly, we gather our paper waste and sell it to recyclers, contributing to the recycling economy.
Some individuals may believe that global warming is not their concern, but in reality, by helping the Earth, we also benefit ourselves. It is important to recognize that our actions have a direct impact on our own well-being and the health of the planet we inhabit. By making conscious choices and embracing sustainable practices, we can contribute to a healthier and more sustainable future for all.
